4EU+ is an Alliance founded originally by four partners in 2017 (Charles University, Heidelberg University, Sorbonne University, University of Warsaw). It was created in response to the results of the Gothenburg Summit in the same year and the call to strengthen and reform the European education and research area. A year later, two new universities joined the Alliance - the University of Milan and Copenhagen University.
What is the difference between 4EU+ Alliance and 4EU+ Project?
The 4EU+ Alliance was established knowing that it would exist regardless of whether its project would succeed in the European Commission's pilot call. This has been successful, so we distinguish the 4EU+ Alliance, whose activities are very broad, involving cooperation across the university in all sectors and sharing resources. The European University Alliance (EUN) project focuses in particular on research-based education and the development of this type of education at all partner universities through several types of activities.
The Alliance's goal is for six of Europe's top universities to join forces and become more than just standard partners. In order to create new collaborations naturally, resources, scientific knowledge were shared, and students, teachers, researchers and employees were intensively exchanged. In addition, EUN aims to innovations in teaching.
EUN was granted for three years (starting date is November 2019). It is assumed that an extension of the project will be requested at the appropriate moment. However, the Alliance's cooperation continues regardless of the end of the EUN project. By nature, this cooperation is planned to be very long-term, if not permanent.
This is a completely new scheme and type of projects. It is characterized by very above-standard cooperation of the institutions involved and a long-term cooperation.
Is there a certain contact point at each participating university? Or can I write directly to the researchers?
Yes, there are one or two coordinators at each university you can write to. If you decide to address your colleagues researchers from the university directly, please give the coordinators in cc so they know about your cooperation and can adequately support it. If necessary, you can contact the CU coordinators.
If a counterpart at another university knows nothing about the 4EU+ project (but is interested in cooperation), what should I do?
Follow the same procedure as in the previous point, referring it to the coordinator at his home university, or add the coordinator of the CU to the communication.
Funding support within the project
The funding of the project itself (EUN) is limited, but it is possible to fund some of educational activities. However, most of the project funding goes to joint central activities such as the creation of a common platform, etc.
Funding support through follow-up university projects
University is committed to co-finance the EUN project and other Alliance activities.
We support student research - more information coming soon.
